Too many people in this world have forgotten how to be happy. Does this apply to you? There are a few habits you can change to make yourself one of those people who life never seems to get the best of.

1) Minimize the negative - There are so many bad things in the world. It's difficult for anyone to watch the news these days and not get depressed. If certain things like reading newspapers or watching the news make you unhappy - just don't do it as much. Don't get me wrong, it's good to be informed about the world you live in, but too many people develop an addiction to things that depress them. It's an unhealthy fascination that eventually leads them to spending all their time dwelling on negative things.

2) Learn to have fun again - When we were children, we could have fun in nearly any situation. As we grow older, the weight of responsibility sometimes becomes such a burden people forget that life isn't all about work. If you feel yourself falling into this rut, think about the things you loved to do when you were younger. Set aside a time to revisit your youth and engage in these activities. Taking a couple of hours to watch a movie you love or shoot a few games of pool can pay off in a massive way by putting things in perspective for you and giving you back a little balance in your life.

3) Be active - When a person doesn't get enough exercise, their metabolism slows down. Many times someone is mentally and emotionally fine until their slowing metabolism drags down their thoughts. In other words: your emotions and physical state feed off each other. Being fit and feeling good make good things better and bad things not as bad. Being out of shape has the opposite effect. It makes good things ho-hum, and bad things terrible.

4) Spend time with those you love - It's a well-known fact that pets can lower a person's blood pressure. Spending quality time with your family can have the same effect. Love does wonders when it comes to feeling happy. Whether it's the unconditional love of your dog or the open trust of your spouse or kids, basking in the love of others can center a person and remind you what's really important in life.
