Okay, everyone does it, there's no need to be embarrassed. Is your son your daughter learning to potty train? Or perhaps you need a gift for your grandchild or niece o nephew who is learning to potty-train?

According to the American Association of Pediatrics, babies could start potty training at any age between 18 and 24 months, depending on the child. Some children may not be ready for potty training until after 30 months (AAP). Because each child potty trains at a different rate and age, choose the toy or product that is closest in age to the potty-training gift recipient. Here is a holiday gift guide for the child learning to potty train. They need some encouragement, and a helpful, educational or cute toy may help ease them along to a smooth transition.

Potty Elmo by Fisher-Price. Even Elmo goes potty. Potty Elmo learning toy for potty-training children comes with a t-shirt and training-pants-wearing plush Elmo doll. Elmo will ask you for a drink from hissippy cup (included) when his hand is squeezed. And then he will ask to go to the potty. Elmo will either sing a reward song or an encouraging song, depending on how successful his attempt was. This toy for potty-training children also comes with potty training tips for parents. Award: Oppenheim Toy Portfolio. Retail Price: $20.

Fun to Learn Potty by Fisher-Price. This fancy toilet for the potty-training child mimics the attributes of a real toilet, while making toilet training fun. The Fun to Learn Potty looks like a kid-sized toilet, has a toilet paper dispenser and even makes a fun sound when the lever is pulled. By designing a toilet training potty that is similar to a real toilet, the transition for potty-training children will hopefully be easier. Unlike a regular toilet, the Fun to Learn Potty requires batteries, so that it may sing encouraging songs. Retail price: $35.

Yes, Courtney, an actual training urinal and it really flushes. "Everyone Poops" is a classic.

Oh my goodness! A training urinal for little boys? That's so cool (and practical). When I was a kid, my two favorite books were "Everyone Poops" and "Once Upon a Potty." Come to thing of it, maybe I should have admitted that in an anonymous comment!
