Much of the beauty of the Hawaiian Island of Kauai, including shots seen in the Jurassic Park films, can only be seen by helicopter. That is why a helicopter tour is a must-do on your visit to Kauai. As one author so eloquently puts it, “Going to Kauai without taking a helicopter flight is like going to the Sistine Chapel and not looking up.”

The highlight of your Kauai helicopter tour will be the unbelievable sight of the majestic Na Pali Coast. Wondrous valleys between marvelous mountains will leave you with your jaw dropped during much of the flight.

Bring your camera. You will want to capture the Waimea Canyon, the wonder nicknamed the “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific” by Mark Twain. Another natural beauty is the lush Olokele Valley.

Some helicopter tours can feel like real-life films, as the pilot lifts you over ridge while heart-thumping music plays in your headphones. Waterfalls are plentiful, and you might see goats atop mountains and even whales down below.

Kauai’s beaches and reefs are even more beautiful from the air. And you will likely never see anything quite as perfect as the Wai’ale’ale Crater, which is surrounded by 3,000 foot high waterfalls.

The only reason you or someone in your party may want to avoid a helicopter tour on Kauai is concern over safety. Of course, flying in a small vessel always involves some risk. There have been accidents and incidents on Kauai and its neighbor islands. Check the safety records of some of the helicopter tour companies on Kauai before booking your tour. Do so independently, as some tour companies may not be forthright with such information.
