Physical cosmology is a branch off of astronomy and is the study of the large scale structure of our universe. Physical cosmology is indeed concerned with the fundamental questions of the formation of our universe and its evolution. This study involves with studying motions of all celestial bodies and what is known as the first cause. The first cause is connected with a philosophical view of connecting a god with the spontaneous generation of life. The first act in human history has been a branch of metaphysics. However, cosmology the science originates by the Copernican principle that implies celestial bodies all obey identical physical laws to those on our Earth. Newton mechanics also allowed us to understand these motions in the universe. These mechanics are now known as celestial mechanics. Physical cosmology originated in the twentieth century with the development of Einstein's theory of relativity.

Our twentieth century scientific advances have now made it possible for us to speculate the origins of our universe. This has allowed scientists to establish what is known as the Big Bang Theory as a leading cosmological theory of our universes origin and evolution. Most cosmologists already accept this theory as the basis for their theories and observations of today. There are still some scientists and researchers who still support alternative cosmologies, but the professionals agree that the big bang theory is the best explanation for their observations.
