Jack Kirby was Stan Lee's right hand man as an artist. But Stan himself has stated when creating characters for their books it is hard to tell just how much one contributed to them. They where partners threw and threw and it is most evident in the Fantastic Four, as one of the story lines early in he run featured then new characters Silver Surfer and Galactus, for they are predominantly Jack Kirby creations.
Jack Kirby was more than just a "Marvel Comics guy" he also ventured out to other companies to do his own creations doing both writing and art. The most notable of his creations are the New Gods of the Forth World. In this he lets his imagination run wild as we see entire worlds being destroyed and created in little more than a whim. When the dust settles we have the New Gods. Born on twin worlds, one predominantly good the other most assuredly evil. They where at war for countless years until a pact was made, Highfather: the ruler of the Planet New Genesis, traded sons with Darkseid: the ruler of Apokolips.
Another creation Jack is largely accountable for is Captain America. He was the creation of not only Jack Kirby but Joe Simon. (Thought I was going to say Stan Lee right?) Joe and Jack did ten issues of Captain America and it soon became a hit quickly rising near and above the likes of Superman, Batman, and Captain Marvel. The sales went past the million mark and comics are never the same again.
