Chinese Village Traditions
Right now China is experiencing an amazing economical explosion. As a result, their environment is taking a huge hit. Now is the time that we all need to take a look at how economic and industrial growth impacts the health of the environment and to take steps to reduce the negative impacts that these develops are having. One way that this can be accomplished is to study traditional ways and relationships between commerce, religion and the environment.
The Chinese Village Traditions expeditions offered by Earthwatch takes researchers and volunteers into Miao Jia Getai, which is a traditional mountain village located on the Miaos terrace. This is a very small village that has only about 240 people. The people live in traditional cave dwellings. Surrounding these dwellings are beautiful temples. Led by Dr. Feng, Dr. Dang, Yanfeng Liu and Jiang Lu, this research project is determined to study traditional lifestyles of these people. The projects associated with this study include one that looks at religious activities, one that looks at architecture, one that looks at religious legends and one that looks that the settings of the local temples.
