American Idol: David Cook's Hospital Visit

Will His Visit Affect His Chances on American Idol?

Concerned American Idol fans across the country tuned in to television and radio stations to learn the fate of American Idol David Cook, who went to the hospital

after last night's show. He wasn't feeling well during the show, feeling light-headed and experiencing heart palpitations, and was concerned enough to get checked out. The Los Angeles Times reports that he was later released with a prescription for medication to lower his anxiety-related high blood pressure and is now back in his hotel room.

The Times reports American Idol insiders told E! that David Cooks's anxiety may be partly due to his concern about his brother, who has cancer. I have to wonder if there is another factor: his rapid weight loss. Since the season began, David appears to have lost quite a bit of weight. If he's not eating properly, he could be more susceptible to anxiety, whereas he may normally be better equipped to handle stress. Is he using the notorious Lemon Detox diet in order to look more like a rock star than his formerly fluffy self? It's hard to say. Other American Idol contestants seem to handle the stress of being on the show, so why is David heart palpitations?

Will this hospital visit hurt or help David Cook?

Many American Idol fans may be pondering whether David Cook's hospital visit will hurt or help his chances of winning. It could be said that an American Idol should be handle any form of stress handed to them, and this incident shows that he's not up to the rigorous schedule of a rock star...although his performance on last night's show did not seem to be adversely affected by his health problems. Although this concern may deflect some of his votes to other contestants, I think it will have the opposite effect.

American Idol fans seem to vote based on emotion and sentimentality rather than singing talent (as evidenced by Taylor Hicks, who certainly didn't win on his singing ability). Often when judge Simon Cowell dislikes a performance, we see a surge in votes for that contestant, in what can often be assumed to be sympathy.

I'm getting so sick of people saying that Taylor couldn't sing. He can, and very well. It's funny that early on in the competition a lot of people were saying it would be great if someone like Taylor won because he's a real musician and not a cookie cutter pop singer. Then he does win, and everyone in the media turns on him as if no one ever thought he had any talent.

I voted for Taylor Hicks on his singing. I am sick and tried of the media saying what we the fan voted on. Why don't you take a voted and see what we the fans think about his singing. How do you know what we the fans think about him. Sure you will have people that don't like him but they are not fans. They are not the ones that voted for him.

I love Taylor Hicks music, and he is very entertaining as well, 799,000 CD's sold is not all that shabby for his type of music. Why don't you "dime a dozen" half-ass reporters do a little more research before you write the garbage about Taylor Hicks,a wonderful, soulful singer, who has brought music back to thousands of people who had quit listening to the junk they call music today...

I think the front-runner has to be considered to be David Archuletta. Having said that, it is not always the "winners" who end up winning, in the long run (Chris Daughtry is a good example). Carly is the best female performer left, but the tattoos are going to be offputting to many (especially her husband's) and she's from IRELAND. Michael Jahns (sp?) and David Cook are both doing well and I think they will both "win" whether they "win" or not. It seems as though the male contestants, this year, are stronger than the female contestants.

We know nothing about why he had to go get checked up other than what he mentioned about having high blood pressure. This could have been caused by anything from stress (being sequestered for an extended competition while your family is going through hard times) to a pre-existing health condition (in one so young?) or too much caffeine (ever finished that coffee pot and just wanted to die? 20oz Red Bull anyone? That stuff gives me palpitations and nausea!). Anyways, I was glad to see him back last night! Can't wait for his next performance!
