You might wonder why someone would pay nearly five dollars for a tube of toothpaste, but I can tell you that Tom’s of Maine toothpaste is well worth the money.

Even though we both grew up using fluoride toothpastes, my husband and I have become increasingly concerned about fluoride. While searching for fluoride-free toothpaste alternatives, we discovered Tom’s of Maine dental products at our local supermarket.

We’ve tried several of the Tom’s of Maine toothpaste flavors, including a couple of the fluoride toothpastes, since someone had given us a couple of tubes. I haven’t yet found a Tom’s of Maine toothpaste flavor that I disliked, though I do have a couple of favorites.

When my daughter was growing up, we had Tom’s of Maine Strawberry flavor toothpaste on our bathroom counter. I’ve tried the Peppermint and the Wintermint flavors too.

Lately, though, my two favorites are Tom’s of Maine Fennel toothpaste, when I can find it, and Tom’s of Maine Spearmint toothpaste. The Fennel flavor toothpaste is a bit more difficult to find in our area. Only a couple of stores carry it. The Spearmint flavor is easily found at every store I’ve checked in our area.

The Fennel toothpaste is unlike anything I’ve had before. It is distinctly licorice, but in a very clean, refreshing way. It is not an overpowering licorice, but it’s definitely strong enough to say that if you dislike licorice, you will probably want to choose another of Tom’s several varieties.

My husband prefers the Spearmint flavor toothpaste over the Fennel, so the Spearmint toothpaste is what I usually buy. If any dental product could be called “delicious”, the Tom’s of Maine Spearmint toothpaste is. The toothpaste leaves a very fresh, clean feeling mouth. Teeth feel smooth and almost “polished” after brushing. There is no “chemical” aftertaste, and the toothpaste is not overly sweet, as some other toothpastes tend to be.
