Frankly I’m getting tired of articles bashing eBay. I have been using eBay for over six years and still love eBay. Of course you do have to use common sense when shopping on eBay. Think of eBay auctions this way: it’s like a giant yard sale; you don’t buy crap when you shop at yard sales do you? If a deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
I see articles complaining about how there are illegal items on eBay. Yes, eBay probably should make more of an effort to remove auctions that contain illegally made copies of CDs and DVDs. But, eBay shouldn’t have to hold your hand and tell you not to buy a DVD that costs a $0.01 and is supposedly brand new. You should have enough common sense to know not to buy that DVD. Then there’s DVDs that are from foreign countries and these are legal. Places like
Hong Kong
get new releases on DVD sooner than we do sometimes. These will have foreign titles, etc on the case and that’s something you should consider.
Some sellers will even tell you that the DVDs they are selling are from a foreign country or are copies. Of course most sellers are smarter than that. A few good ways to tell if a DVD is fake, is to look at the price, the number of copies the person has, if the DVD is missing artwork and the case, and last you will see auctions that say, “Artwork may differ from original.”
There are millions of auctions on eBay. I don’t blame eBay for leaving it up to us to figure out what is real and what isn’t. Is there someone at yard sales saying, “I wouldn’t buy that, it’s fake.” NO! You have to use common sense. It just makes me sick that people are too stupid to realize when something is too good to be true. Where has common sense gone?
