This is a fun craft project for kids that allow them to dress up for Thanksgiving. It is made out of simple materials you most likely have around the house. You can also make other Thanksgiving favorites like a Pilgrim mask with this craft project.

Each mask should cost you well less than $5, depending on what materials you already have. The kids can easily make their pilgrim or Indian mask in less then 30 minutes.

To Make an Indian Mask for Thanksgiving You Will Need

Paper Plate
Elastic
Scissors
Construction Paper
Glue (rubber cement glue, glue stick, or white glue works)
Hole puncher
Those little white punched hole protectors that keep paper from ripping

The first step is to punch two holes in your paper plate. One should be on the left side of the paper plate about one inch in. The other hole should be directly opposite the first hole about one inch in from the right edge. Go ahead and apply a hole protector to the front and back of each hole. This step is optional, but if you don’t want the kids ripping through their mask almost immediately I highly recommend this step. You could also substitute a more sturdy plastic disposable plate instead of the paper plate for this easy craft project.

Next, go ahead and cut out the eye holes in your Indian mask. This will help later when you add colorful layers of paper. You can also cut out a mouth hole and even a nose hole or two if you want.

Now, lay your plate out on some brown or cream colored construction paper. Trace your circle out onto the paper. Use some scissors to cut out the circle of paper. Glue it onto your paper plate.

Use an exacto knife or scissor to cut out your eye hole and mouth hole on the colored paper to match you holes in the paper plate.

Cut a strip of colored paper about 1 inch tall and wide enough to reach across your plate masks.

Now, cut out some feathers out of colored construction paper.

Glue your feathers onto the top of your Indian mask. Hot glue is great for this if you are in a hurry, but for younger kids you can let hem use a glue stick or whit glue.
