you walk twenty feet in front of me
when I call to slow down
I'm ignored
as if I did something wrong

your reasons are vague
maybe the drinks went to your head
and confusion became your mind

at home,
you enter fast
grab your things
and leave

I'm baffled
as if I did something wrong

the lights in your home are turned out
your door is closed
your phone is called a few times
with absolutely no response
the ignorance has become the standard
for the evening

I turn out my kitchen light
and look out the kitchen window
across the courtyard
and wonder

the television is on
with Hell's Kitchen starring Chef Ramsay
playing to no one

outside, the streets are dark
the only sound heard
comes from the ambulance
with the Steel Valley logo
it's long, wailing siren
interrupts the night time silence.
