Clinton and Osama Sitting in a Tree… Analysis of the Fox News Interview with Chris Wallace

Did you see the Bill Clinton fiasco on Fox News Channel recently? What the hell was that all about? I swore my political writing days were done, but I really felt the need to comment on this (especially in the wake of Bob Woodward's book). Let me sum up Clinton's interview with Fox's Chris Wallace…

-Chris Wallace begins the interview with some slanted questions and a smirk on his face, Bill Clinton is not impressed-he begins to contemplate touching Chris Wallace's leg in a slightly inappropriate fashion.

-The inevitable 9/11 questions start and Bill Clinton is not amused (obviously, Hillary Clinton made him sleep on the couch last night). "You think I'm sleeping with Osama bin Laden, you motherfucker," is what he's thinking/

-Bill Clinton, ironically smirking himself, starts to make comments about Chris Wallace's smirk. Unbeknownst to either man, they have just laid the groundwork for a weeklong debate on the merits of smirking. (I must admit, Chris Wallace does have a condescending gremlin-like smirk.)

-Clinton throws caution to the wind and starts going after Chris Wallace's leg. First, he tries the "I'm placing my palm on your leg in a totally heterosexual way to let you know the gravity of the conversation were having"-leg touch, but this soon morphs into the "slightly homo-erotic, firm finger poke that lets you know I am seriously not fucking around"-leg touch. This is when it starts to get weird.

-It starts to get weird because Chris Wallace does nothing to stop this leg touch assault. Is he scared because it's President Clinton or does he like it? Does he like it because it scares him?

-Lost in the shuffle of this bizarre incident, at least in my world, is the fact that Clinton has finally and adamantly addressed all the collective criticism about Osama and 9/11. He does nothing short of pointing the finger at Bush and his cronies, not the finger he used to relentlessly poke Fox henchman Wallace but a larger, metaphorical finger. The finger that we all must point at one time or another.
