If you're looking for an outstanding culinary experience, look no further than The Kitchen Restaurant, located on Hurley Way in Sacramento. Right off the bat, there are two crucial pieces of information you need to be aware of. First, The Kitchen Restaurant is not the place to go for a low or moderately priced meal. It is, however, the place to go for an experience you soon won't forget, and not because it carries a $125 price tag. And second, if you decide to try The Kitchen, know that you will have to make a reservation, possibly months in advance. Randall Selland, the chef and owner of The Kitchen, has been making his dinner presentations a sell-out for over 13 years.

Selland does five dinners a week, but they are far from what diner's generally anticipate when they go to a restaurant. Selland does what he calls 'demonstration dinners' or 'culinary events.' There is only one seating each evening on Wednesday through Sunday, and the restaurant holds no more than 50 people for each seating. The menu is fixed and changes monthly. There are generally four or more courses, with suggested accompanying wines which are not included in the pre fixe, and patrons should plan on being at the restaurant for four hours. Yes, four hours.

In addition to being a world-class chef, Selland is a consummate showman. He combines his skill with French cooking technique using the freshest of California produce, with an energetic front-and-center performance. He chats up his customers, explaining what he will be doing with the live lobsters or fresh fish he is carrying, all in a relaxed and definitely fun atmosphere.
