Rock the Cradle Debut
Week 1 Review

After MTV struck gold with refined talent in "America's Best Dance Crew," many had high hopes for "Rock the Cradle." However, viewers might be apprehensive to tune in for a second showing after questionable performances lacking next generation talent in the debut. The baby star power is undeniable boasting nine kids from pinnacle stars; MC Hammer, Bobby Brown, Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers, Olivia Newton-John, Grammy winner Kenny Loggins, Eddie Money, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, R&B artist Al B. Sure!, and Eagle's guitarist Joe Walsh. It was clear from the small clips shown that being the son or daughter of a rock star had taken immeasurable tolls on their social lives. It couldn't be more impossible to find out who you are as an individual when everyone around you judges you by their perception of your celebrity parents. Parents who were often guilty of rock star behavior, financial and legal troubles, and a life on the road away from home. Now these nine kids have a chance to make a name for themselves in a talent competition.
Unlike the reality programming MTV traditionally delivers, this show follows a format more reminiscent of "American Idol" and very similar to "America's Best Dance Crew." If you were expecting to see these kids to be locked up and fighting in a house together, you will sadly be disappointed.
In true rock star fashion, a band rehearsed with each contestant throughout the week so they have some reign of straying from the original notes and song format. During the first show, the band has already been able to save struggling contestants by hanging a note while a performer caught their breath or clearly tried to remember the next word in the song. The backup vocalists were frequently overshadowing the weaker performers on stage.
