I have a very difficult time with the concept of a man being pregnant. I don't know if you have heard the entire buzz on Oprah and People Magazine about the first pregnant man. Thomas and Nancy are expecting their first baby together. The only difference is that it is Thomas who is carrying the baby. They are expecting a baby girl in 3 months. It has been kept secret up until recently.Thomas was born female and was named Tracey. Her mother, who was Caucasian committed suicide when she was only 12, creating a very deep, wound on this very sensitive young woman. Her father was Asian and worked all the time and found himself having to fill in the gap as mother and father of his 2 sons and one daughter.
Thomas's father pushed him into competition beauty pageants. She won many awards and was a gorgeous woman. Tracey was not a girly girl and considered herself a tomboy. Later when Thomas/Tracey went to college he found that he was much more comfortable as a male. He dressed as a male and was even thought to be male. He dated his karate teacher as a woman and the teacher said that he walked like a boy and was too masculine.
He came into himself. He decided that he wanted to become male. He has his breasts removed. He did not have his genitalia changed, retaining his uterus and ovaries, although he started testosterone therapy. He grew facial hair, and much to Oprah's curiosity and the audience's he revealed that he grew a larger clitoris, which is penis like. He is able to have intercourse with his wife Nancy. He jokingly asked if size mattered.
His wife Nancy has two grown daughters, whom are very supportive of Thomas and their mother's very sensitive, caring relationship. The one daughter announced that they are role models for her and her husband.

I've read some comments about how the child's life might turn out to be. There's a lot of children out there coming from conventional marriages who've turned out to be screwed. The point is that these comments ignore human choice and the poor child's whole history is squeezed into one factor.
As for the father, there's a lot of research pointing to the genetic basis of one's sexuality. Several of this research is contestable on empirical and metaphysical grounds. But science is too affected by social concerns to be neutral. I venture to assert that homosexuality and transexuality is a revelation of underlying psychological issues that a person needs to deal with.
Several of our social psychological traits and behaviors are called either masculine and feminine traits because we choose to gender these traits/behaviors. They are simple gentle, passive, co-operative, enterprising, critical traits/behaviors, etc that either man or woman can have. What trait is to be used depends on
Boy, this story sure brings out alot of comments, doesn't it? I wrote one too but haven't heard much back about it yet, maybe because the page was a bit screwed up and they just fixed it. Anyway, this is just a normal story about a couple (who cares 'what' they are, and yes, biologically they are both women) who very much want a child. The headlines have turned this into a side show, and Opra didn't help much either. I found this quote as I was doing research and I thought it just about summed up how I feel too. I find this story really bizarre too. For all intents and purposes, "Thomas" (Tracey) is still a woman with the reproductive organs of a woman, so it is not really a man who is pregnant at all. I'm sure the child will have a lot of bullying to cope with as he or she grows up.

It's a little mixed up for me. It reminds me of the guy on Morey povich that got the sex change only to discover he/she was a lesbian...so much gender confusion makes me crazy.
The person really isn't a man having a baby. It's someone who looks very much like a man because he/she had breasts removed, grew facial hair, and dresses like a guy. In reality the person is female with all of the female parts that are necessary to have a baby. I saw the guy on tv, and you're right. He is very handsome. He was also a beautiful woman. Very well written article. I learned a lot of info from this that I didn't know. Hopefully the baby will be happy and healthy. I find it all very odd, but who am I to judge.
When I first read about this story, the one thing I could not understand is how this person was LEGALLY declared a man? How? What constitutes a legal man or legal woman? With female parts, how was this person declared a man? They article I read said he was legally a man and legally married to his wife? HOW??? I don't get it!! A man should have man parts not just look like and dress like a man. Any woman can do that! What is this world coming too? God help us all!!!

Good grief uhg
I agree that Oprah ought to spend a little more time on important things like mold and the dangers of toxic mold instead of sensationalizing something like this. Oprah is really getting a little to big for her britches, no pun intended.
