Electronic study tools are becoming increasingly popular. Colleges and Universities are giving away iPods for students, textbooks for mp3 players are available, audio study guides for everything from the SAT to foreign languages. The most recent line of mp3 players and iPods are equipped with a photo-viewing feature, allowing the customer to view pictures and slideshows. This feature makes a very good flashcard program, as the hard drive sizes are usually high enough to store hundreds of cards for a dozen or more classes.
Making your own cards is easy, and usually necessary, as stores and resources are slow in the uptake of electronic flash cards. All you need to make flashcards is a player that has a picture viewing feature, a computer, and some type of photo editing program, such as GIMP, Photoshop, or any other program.
Follow these steps, and you will soon have your own mp3 player flashcards.
1: Consult your players manual and find out the screen resolution if you don't already know it. The screen size is the size your flashcards will need to be in order for them to view properly.
2: Open your photo editing software and create a new canvas that is the resolution of your mp3 player - for example 240 x 180. This will be your master card. Create a border or anything you may want on them all. If you don't want anything on them aside from the information, then proceed to the next step.
3: Save the card as Master Card.jpg (or whatever file extension you player supports). This will allow you to easily create new cards in the future. Now, add the info you want. You can either create the card so the question is at the top and the answer at the bottom, or make it so one card is the question, and the next is the answer.
4: Once you have added the info, save the card as whatever.jpg. Now, hit control-z to take the master card back to it's blank state. You can now create another card with whatever info. Repeat the process of 'save and undo'.
