If I had to choose a quintessential romantic restaurant, it would have to be the Melting Pot. There is nothing more romantic then a) a restaurant that serves excellent wines, b) cooking fondue at your table, and c) hand feeding your lover chocolate dipped strawberries at the end of the meal.

While I had been to this chain in several other cities (Phoenix and Kansas City), my recent experience in Tucson was not as stellar as the previous times. The staff gave us a hassle about having not having a reservation when we arrived, even though it was a random Tuesday night and the dining area was practically empty. Our server barely visited the table. Poor customer service was definitely shown, which was quite disappointing considering the price of the meal.

Aside from staffing issues, the food in this establishment was incredible. From a great wine and garlic fondue broth to tender pieces of chicken and filet mignon for table cooking, the meal itself was nothing short of excellent. Starting off with their brilliant Tropical Salad (think mangos and coconut encrusted cashews) became a highlight of dinner. Their menus also boasts of feasts including lobster, jerk seasoned beef, vanilla rum chicken, butternut squash ravioli, zesty peppered shrimp, fresh vegetables and more.

Dessert consisted of a Bailey's Irish Cream and chocolate fondue, served with pieces of cheesecake, strawberries, bananas, and marshmallows. Delicious way to end a wonderful meal! Their other chocolate varieties include turtle, white and dark chocolate (yin and yang) and s'mores.

Takeaways
  • A perfect restaurant to share with someone you love.
  • The food is cooked right at your table.
  • The Melting Pot has several national locations.

I reviewed this chain as well. We had a terrible experience despite going based on rave reviews. We found it to be exorbitantly piced, service was poor at best, we also didn't have a reservation though we went right when they were opening on an odd day as well and they were none too happy to see us and then they tried to push us out the door. half of the chocolate we were paying $16 for was still in the bottom of the pot and they were ticked off that we were asking for a few more marshmallows. Not a repeater for us no matter what city it's in.
