20 Biggest NFL Draft Busts of All-Time

These Guys Were Supposed to Be in the Hall of Fame, Not Hall of Shame

These guys were high profile college players who were supposed to just coast through the NFL on their way to Canton and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. For one reason or another, they didn't make it. What they did make was the all-bust team.

1- Ryan Leaf QB - No talent combined with probably the worst attitude of all time at the position. He tried to make a comeback with the Cowboys but it wasn't to be. I understand that he has turned his life around and is involved in college coaching now.

2 - Heath Shuler QB - He was really hyped to be the cat's meow for the Redskins. I remember that at the time that he held out as a rookie and never recovered. He ended up with the Saints and stunk it up there as well.

3 - Brian Bosworth LB - The Seahawks thought they were getting the next Sam Huff. But I remember Bo Jackson Huffing and Puffing and blowing his door down. Brian did have some injury problems but he never would have lived up to "The Boz" image anyway. Now he is a somewhat talented actor, but I guess he always was.

4 - Akili Smith QB - The Bengals thought he would put them in the Super Bowl, but it was more like the Blooper Bowl for this quarterback.

5 - Andre Ware QB - Won the Heisman Trophy in college, went to Detroit to run the same run and shoot offense as he did in school, and couldn't cut it. Bounced around the CFL and NFL Europe before retiring.

6 - Tony Mandarich OT - The Packers thought they had the next Forrest Gregg, but he got lost in the Forrest. Was thought to be a sure future hall of famer. Made a brief comeback with the Colts but never was a good player.

7- Archie Griffin RB - Was a decent pro back but never lived up to the hype of a 2 time Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State.

8 - Steve Emtman DT - Another overly hyped college player and college hall of famer. But he never made much happen in the pros. To his defense he did battle injures most of his career.

9 - Lawrence Phillips RB - He was just a thug, always in trouble with the Police, was given several chances by the Rams and Dolphins but couldn't resist being a criminal.

10 - Rae Carruth WR - Did have some promise but decided murdering his pregnant girlfriend was more important than an NFL career.
