A Question Worth Thinking About

Potty training is a huge milestone for many children and some parents find themselves asking a seemingly simple question: Should my child toilet train with a potty chair or a potty seat? Perhaps you're reading this now
thinking, "What's the difference anyway and does it really even matter?" There are definite differences and each choice carries its own pros and cons. Take a closer look at each of the options available before buying any potty training gear.

The Potty Chair: a standalone product that is completely separate from your regular toilet.

Pros

1. The child may like or prefer to have their very own toilet that no one else uses. Children that use the word "mine" a lot may fall into this category

2. It is easier for the child to use a potty chair since it is more accessible. It can be quickly reached by the child without any adult help. These chairs promote independence.

3. Many chairs come in interesting shapes, colors, and sizes and offer music. For example, your little one goes "pee-pee" and a special tune plays.

4. It is less frightening for the child since the chair is on his or her level.

5. Child is in a more natural position as his or her feet can touch the floor. This can make "going" a little easier.

Cons

1. Yucky clean up that gets old quickly. With a potty chair you can't simply flush that "pee-pee" or "poopie" down the toilet. It's important to keep the chair clean and sanitized since your child is getting up close and personal with it several times a day.

2. You will eventually have to teach your child to use the "big potty." This means you will have to invest in a potty seat sooner or later.

3. Takes up space in the bathroom which can be a problem for some.

4. It can be easily moved around by your toddler as they are typically light weight. This is something that could make for a nasty mess. Most people don't want the potty chair to be carried around throughout the house.

5. It can be easily knocked over.

6. Music and interesting shapes could make the toilet seem like a toy and something the child wants to play with. This might distract from the process.

The Potty Seat: a smaller seat that fits around or on top of your regular toilet seat.
