We were on State Road 40 after leaving Daytona Beach, Florida, and we wanted something to eat before getting on Interstate 75. We saw Stage Stop Cafe in Silver Springs and decided to stop for lunch. It looks like nothing special from the outside, but we do love to try these mom-and-pop places as it is great to meet the locals.

We entered the restaurant and waited to be seated. There was a huge special board with breakfast on one side and lunch items on the other. Our server told us that they were serving both. We sat in one of the booths at the front, and the rest of the cafe there were tables. All of them had red plastic tablecloths that looked as if they had seen better days.

Len and I had soda and decaffeinated coffee in the car so we ordered iced water to drink. When our server came back I ordered the special which was a cup of minestrone soup and an egg salad sandwich. I had mine on rye bread, toasted. Len went for the same as me but had wheat instead. The special was $3.99.

We got talking with the server and then other people in the restaurant. One guy said that the food was so bad that he had to eat there everyday. They were a nice bunch of people.

Our soup and sandwich came on a large plate. The soup tasted a little watered down and had more noodles than vegetables but the sandwich was excellent. It was loaded with egg salad and lettuce.

Len and I both finished our lunches and had enjoyed the sandwiches. Len also said to me that the soup was too bland.

Stage Stop breakfast menu has sandwiches from $1.99 to $4.50.
They also have 22 breakfasts ranging from 2 eggs and toast at $2.49 to rib eye steak, grits, or potatoes and toast for $12.99.
10 omelette's from $5.50 to $6.75.

For lunch or dinner they have sandwiches from $3.75 to $6.95.
18 dinner entrees from $7.50 to $12.99.
Soup, salads, open faced sandwiches, mini-meals, sides, appetizers, etc.

Beverages are coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, juice, and soft drinks ranging from $1.40 - $1.99. They give 2 refills on coffee and sodas.

They are open from 6.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Sunday. Breakfast is served from 6.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Sunday is breakfast only menu.

Wow, their prices are cheap! Living in Thailand, I miss simple good Western food. Half the time here, it looks the same but tastes awful! :-)

Sounds like a nice break from overpriced, pretentious restaurants. Excellent review. :-)

Sounds like a nice place but there seems to be more and more places where the checkout person does not say anything or smile. We have found that a lot lately
