Marrying for money is nothing new to the game of love. The plot has been repeated over and over again in books and movies. The older wealthy rich man marries the young beautiful woman, or the rich older woman marries the young handsome man. Even if there is not an age difference sometimes there is clearly a distinction that the couples don't match. We look and think in our minds,  "um um hmm he must have money". Or in the back of our mind we look the female up and down and think, "yeah old girl must be loaded."  It is the traditional version of beauty and the beast. Could you do it? Could you marry for money sans love?

The next time you are at a venue where there is a crowd, just do a little people watching. Check out the couples. The matches are clearly as obvious as the mismatches. Let's take the woman and we'll call her Beauty. Beauty walks seductively hanging on the trolls' arms, all eyes on her. She enjoys the attention. It is obvious she could seduce a bee out of the nectar that he worked so hard for to extract from a flower. And Mister (not to be confused with the character M-I-S-T-E-R in The Color Purple) struts like a bantam rooster, with his chest all puffed out as he marches through the crowd with his trophy wife which suggests he's a real man. I don't think so. Mister meanwhile is dumpy, overweight, not so attractive, manners are not the best, and displays a host of other atrocities that simply don't match the lovely one he is with. Yet, Beauty holds onto her partner's arm and smiles. She is on with every fiber of energy that she has. In her world it is show time. And the thing is she looks happy! And so the assumption is made. He has money.

Takeaways
  • Money does not guarantee happiness.
  • Money will however guarantee convenience.
  • Can you live with yourself if you marry someone you don't love? Is it worth giving up your freedom?
Did You Know?
Would you rather marry rich or marry and truly experience the love of your life?
