When a Christian considers the statement, "There is no goodness in us unless it comes from God ", it brings a thought to mind. Are we all capable of evil? I am talking about evil that is so horrible it only deserves death. What if he were to withdraw his hand? Would we still be standing? Would our thoughts and actions be filled with only evil ways? Are we, without God, naturally sinful, evil beings? Does our environment that we grow up in form our thoughts and actions or is it merely the hand of God that keeps us from acting like animals in society?

Romans 7:18; 8:11 says, "I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. But if the Spirit of God is living in you, he will also give his life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit". As a Christian, I am a believer of God's word. I believe that scripture is telling us if there is any goodness in us, it is only because the hand of God is drawing us to him first. He is the one who keeps our souls intact. Do you think you are superior in your profession, your parenting, your advice giving or your money handling? Scripture tells us that all wisdom comes from the heavenly father. If he withdrew his hand you would collapse. God is the one in control. If scripture says there is nothing good that lives in us, that it is only through his Spirit living in us that can keep us from acting on every sinful thought and desire that we have, then what makes us any less capable of becoming a murderer, an adulterer, or a child molester? What if God lifted his hand from us? What if he let us all run a muck in our sinful desires? We would all be the same, wouldn't we? It's a pretty humbling thought. On our own we cannot defend ourselves. Satan will defeat us every time if we are not protected by the Lord. Through Christ, we can overcome sin because he ensures us he will guard our mind and body if we trust in him. He keeps us from falling into our sinful nature. It's through his grace that he holds us back from sin.

Did You Know?
Who is capable of throwing the first stone? I believe no one is.
