A Crucial Read for the Recreational Drug User - My Top 5 List

WARNING: I believe in the recreational use of most drugs, especially hallucinogens. I don't, however, advocate the use of needle drugs. Four of the drugs on this list are illegal and the other one should be. Reader discretion is advised.

FIVE… Acid

I started using in acid in high school. I was always scared to take more than one hit, and for good reason. In all my drug days (and they have mostly passed, mostly), I have not encountered a more unpredictable drug than LSD. For some, this could be seen as a good thing. In the beginning, I enjoyed my experiences with acid, as limited as they may have been. However, on April 20th, 2001 in the parking lot of the Cricket Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, I ate too much. I tripped for 27 hours and haven't touched the stuff since.

FOUR… Mushrooms

Luckily, I have not a bad experience with psychedelic mushrooms. The key has always been the setting. You don't want to eat ‘shrooms if you have to work in four hours, or go to a funeral, or pick your mom up at the airport. Think about it: most bad things on drugs happen for one of two reasons… A) usage has become a problem for the user or B) the user has taken the drugs at an inappropriate time. At this point, I know exactly how many mushrooms to eat to get that special, non-freak-out buzz. However, proper consumption amounts vary, so be careful.

THREE… Ecstasy

I stopped doing E or X (I was never sure what the proper term for this drug was) a long time ago. But I haven't ruled out doing it again. Sometimes the circles you run in begin to dictate what drugs you use, and that's sad. If all these drugs were legal, everything would be safer and better (not really, but go with it). On X, I always felt like I was the best conversationalist in the world and, aside from the depression that always comes in the morning after, it's nice to feel that way.
