Degrassi: The Next Generation premiered its sixth season on Friday September 29 with the episode “Here Comes Your Man.” Degrassi has a reputation for being the most Go There-est show on television. By that they mean that they deal with the harder issues facing adolescents. Degrassi has been the forerunner in addressing issues such as drugs, bipolar, teenage pregnancy, abortion, sexuality, and many more complicated issues.

The sixth season follows in this at face look at adolescent turbulence. In the sixth season comes the return of Sean (Daniel Clark) the notorious bad boy with a good heart. Sean tries to stay on the straight and narrow and he is a good guy deep down, but trouble seems to follow him, even when he is not looking for it. This season starts off no different. Daniel Clark returns to Degrassi after taking last season off.

His character was written a hiatus by having him go back to live with his parents after saving Emma (Miriam McDonald) (his ex-girlfriend) and other students from Rick (Ephraim Ellis). Rick had taken a gun to school and had shot and paralyzed Jimmy (Aubrey Graham) and almost shot Emma. Sean couldn’t deal, so he went home to deal with it.

Sean and Emma had broken up a few seasons back and Sean had even dated Ellie (Stacey Farber) for a while. But now Sean wants Emma back. Sean and Emma’s connection is clearly implied after they first run into each other before school starts. The only problem is now Emma has a new boyfriend. Peter (Jamie Johnston). As a fan of the series I have always wanted to see Sean and Emma get back together. There is a strong connection between these two characters and these two actors. Plus Peter appears to be the looks like a good guy up front, but really is a pretty rotten guy. Last season he e-mailed a topless video of Emma’s bestfriend Manny (Cassie Steele) to the entire school.

Takeaways
  • Degrassi is a show that actual deals with the hard issues facing adolescents
  • The newest season of drama continues to deal with hard issues that other TV shows won't.
  • The newest season of Degrassi is one that people will hook people and make them think.
