How to Make Gourmet Milkshakes

Is there anything better than a milkshake on a hot summer's day? The creamy, cold combination of ice cream and milk is wonderful with hamburgers and French fries. But, did you ever think about making your milkshake gourmet? It almost sounds impossible, doesn't it? In this article,
I'll show you how to prepare a gourmet milkshake that is full of unexpected flavors.

The first step to preparing a gourmet milkshake is to choose the ice cream. Personally, I think homemade vanilla ice cream makes the best gourmet milkshakes. But, you can also find wonderful, high quality ice cream in your grocery store. Brands like Ben & Jerry's would be perfect. While vanilla is the traditional flavor, you can use whatever flavor you prefer. For example, imagine a mocha milkshake, which would be made by combining chocolate and coffee ice cream.

The second step is to choose a liquid for your gourmet milkshake. While milk is the traditional choice, it doesn't add much flavor. Instead choose liquids that will add even more flavor to your gourmet milkshake. For example, you could add heavy cream, chocolate milk, or even Bailey's. Get creative and use ingredients that are rich and flavorful.

The third step to preparing a gourmet milkshake is to choose add-ins. Add-ins add texture to your creamy milkshake. For example, you could add crushed peppermints to a chocolate shake. You could add finely ground espresso beans to a mocha shake. You could even add crushed M&Ms to a French vanilla shake. Be creative and choose add-ins that make your gourmet milkshake fun and flavorful.

The last step is to choose toppings for your gourmet milkshake. The most obvious choice is fresh whipped cream, which I highly recommend. But, you can also use toppings that will blend into your gourmet milkshake. For example, make homemade cream cheese frosting and pipe it around the inside of the glass. As you drink your shake, the frosting will slowly blend in. You could do this with just about any topping imaginable, such as caramel sauce or even peanut butter. Of course, you simply cannot forget to add a cherry to the top.
