Five Warnings Signs of a Caustic Work Place
Everyone Looks Like They Went Out and Partied Last Night
This is the most obvious sign of a caustic work place. The chances that the entire office went out and got stupid drunk together last night are very slim. Those aren't faces regretting last night's body shots; those are faces that are exhausted from either an unrealistic work load or poor working conditions. Pay close attention to the regular staff. If over half of them look like they need a vacation really bad, I suggest that you turn around and leave before getting sucked in by an interview.
The Office Furniture is Falling Apart
Do the work spaces of your perspective new co-workers need the help of a handyman stat? I not saying every office should have brand new office furniture. But if the desks are falling apart, the carpet is frayed and the chairs are a safety hazard; it should ring a warning bell. If you step in the boss' office and the conditions are a lot better then for the rest of the staff, you need to continue your job search else where. An employer that is very hesitate to provide the basic repairs for the work place is usually very stingy during yearly reviews and annual pay raises. A caustic work place is a sure thing, if the boss has a five star office and everyone else has an eighth of a star.
