Treat your mother to some games on Mother's Day. She may want to play a board game. Make a day of it with limited television watching, and you may find that your bond with your mother has grown stronger.

One of the most played games at my mother's home is Sequence by Jax Limited. This is a combination board, card and chip game. The object is to be the first player to achieve two rows of five chips, while preventing the others from doing the same. You will learn how to play both offensive and defensively. You have to keep seven cards in your hand at all times. When it is your turn you have to discard showing others where you are placing your chip, and then draw another card to replace the one you just discarded. This game is really challenging and can take up to an hour to play depending on the pace of the players.

Another fun game that has been around for a long time is Clue by Parker Brothers. For those of you who don't know how to play this, it is fairly simple. All you need to do is discover through investigating what person used which weapon and in which room. There are six suspects, six weapons and nine rooms. The rooms in opposite corners don't need a dice roll in order for you to go through the secret passage when it is your turn again. The dice roll determines the number of tile you can walk over. Rolling a six gives you another roll. Two people can usually solve the mystery in four to seven times around.

If you like bluffing your way through a game, Balderdash is an awesome game to play. Invented by Mattel, Balderdash is a cross between Jeopardy and Trivia Pursuit with a slight twist. You have five categories to choose from. Each category has words or phrases you have to guess the definition from. Let us say that I drew a card, and the word I gave out for others to guess the definition is "Flannikin." You may put down the correct definition or not, but if someone thinks your drawn answer is correct, you get two points. You get to move ahead that many points. Maybe the next word would be "tuckernut." What would your guess be on that?

Sequence is a great game to pass the time.
