Ever since the final Hollywood contestants for season seven of the hit television show "American Idol" were announced, much ado has been made over singer Carly Smithson, who had at one time signed a record deal. But with all the hullabaloo over former record deals the other singers are not getting their due for their own talents. Case in point is Australian transplant Michael Johns.During the week that American Idol is reprising their fund raising show "Idol Gives Back" the song theme was inspirational songs; but not in the religious sense. American Idol contestants chose songs that spoke of their own inspirations. Michael Johns chose "Dream On" by Aerosmith stating that he felt it spoke of his dreams coming true and how hard work can make dreams come true. Johns is proving to be a rocker. Although the judge's comments were mixed and Simon Cowell felt Johns was a bit of a copy cat wannabe; but Michael showed his true self.
Johns is no wannabe or copy cat but the real deal who doesn't have to resort to imitations to please a crowd. Anyone who is a fan of American Idol and has been following the show this season will notice how Johns has performed consistently whether it be performing a song by Queen in a manner that has not been heard since Freddie Mercury led the band or performing a song from Boston's Aerosmith that put the band on the musical map.
If as Simon Cowell has made mentions of on numerous occasions that if American Idol remains a singing competition and not a popularity contest then Michael Johns should remain on the show for some weeks to come.
American Idol has maintained that season seven is the best line up of contestants ever and whether he ends up as the last man standing or not Michael Johns has served notice to American that he is here to stay and will be a musical force to be reckoned with for some time to come.
