American Idol: David Cook Performs "Innocent"

Will David Cook Still Be the Top Idol Contestant

Tonight David Cook performed the song "Innocent" by Our Lady Peace.

From the first note, I had a problem with David C.'s performance. He was pitch-y every time that he used his lower vocal registers. He got it together for the rock chorus, and sounded good against the background vocals. David C. took his performance into the fans tonight, walking off

the stage out to the judges platform. He finished with his palm out to the camera, written on it "Give Back".

David Cook will certainly glide safely into the American Idol Top 7, he is after all the front runner to win it all according to TVGuide.com.
The judging went down like this:

Randy Jackson - "I'm a huge fan of yours and every week you've been throwin' it down... I'm not sure if this was a strong week for you. I didn't quite get it tonight, because you have been so good every other night."

Paula Abdul - "Tonight was no exception of you being so good." Yep, that's Paula's quote for the night.

Simon Cowell - "David, I didn't like this performance very much at all. I thought it was a teensy-weensy bit pompous. ... it wasn't anywhere near as good as the last few weeks."

Paula Abdul then had to point out what David C. had printed on his palm, and all of the judges agreed that was a nice thing for him to do.

There is really no doubt after the last two or three performances by David C. that he has all of the potential for the American Idol title. So did Chris Daughtry.

The World Wide Web is full of fickle fans that can have a change of heart after one bad performance, or worse a poorly worded comment to the press.

My Top 5 (in order of finish)
5. Carly Smithson (this was a tough one)
4. Jason Castro
3. Michael Johns
2. David Archuleta

I agree with your Top 5, except for #5. I liked Syesha and Asia'h the best from go, but I had Syesha making the final four. Michael Johns being kicked off was a surprise, but I'm glad Syesha made it to Top Three. This is going to be good...

It wasn't his best performance, but I still like Cookie. :)

I absolutely agree that David Cook is a great star. He has a unique personality and singing range. You will remember David Cook's name long after " Idol" is over. He has great potential to shine and a good, kind heart.

HE IS STILL THE MAN TO BEAT AND HE IS OPENING TO US THROUGH THIS SONG...

Whether the song was appropriate or not, despite of his so-called 'Vision', his performance was not good at all, especially at this stage of the competition. I had the same problem with his performance as you and for some strange reason think it would be a bad choice if he won AI. But hey, the public gets what the public wants. Nice article.
