There is no clear cut length of time that morning sickness and nausea last during pregnancy. it is as individual an experience as everything else in your pregnancy. For all of the books that I have read, and all of the doctors I have consulted with morning sickness is supposed to pass at the end of your first trimester or twelve weeks. I only wish that I was that lucky. My nausea lasted the entire pregnancy.
I have talked with a few of my other friends and they also had similar experiences. They were nauseous well into there pregnancy. They dreamed of that twelve week mark only to learn that the smell of freshly cut grass still makes them run to the bathroom. They also fantasized that the term morning sickness really meant just that, morning sickness. As most of us know morning sickness really doesn't just show up in the morning. It is an all day and at times all night event.
The nausea was brought on by different things. One such trigger was brushing my teeth. Every morning when I brushed my teeth I had the dry heaves. This did not go away after the first trimester, and it did not get better. I had nine months of trying not to throw up while making sure my breath was fresh enough to get through the day.
While you really don't have control of how long your morning sickness will last you do have control over how you handle it. There are certain triggers that you might realize. I learned that I can not have an electric toothbrush when I am pregnant. I also learned that I needed to keep a packet of graham crackers by the bed so that I could eat one first thing when I got up. I thought long and hard about what smells made me sick and what events led to my bowing down to the porcelain gods and avoided them at all costs.
You might find like some over the counter products such as preggie pops and ginger pills work wonders and are well worth carrying around should the nausea strike. The most important thing you have to remember is to keep your head up. Yes you might have morning sickness all through your pregnancy, but in the end you will have a beautiful child that will give you so much joy, you won't even remember having morning sickness.
