I have to admit I never heard of Devendra Banhart until all the rumors of Natalie Portman dating him. From the name, I actually was curious if Natalie Portman had come out of the closet. All the hype has been over Banhart's extreme womanly style. There are numerous pictures of him wearing earrings, bracelets, women's jeans and coats, including a purse at his side.

Yet, I don't understand why everyone has gotten in such a frenzy over this. I know plenty of guys who wear women's jeans and coats. My brother does for example, and at times we have shared the same jeans. You might be thinking this is a gay thing or drawing to other conclusions. However, you are wrong. It is nothing else than the "indie" style. Especially if you live in California this is the style that most young men have. In San Francisco it is rare not to see this.

This makes sense because Banharts music is indie rock. Although, there have been some pictures of Banhart dressed up in what appears to be a very lavish bra and some tights. I don't even own these. The only style this would fall under is drag, so it must be for show. We have to remember all of Marilyn Manson's wacky costumes. I mean he went so far as to put fake breasts in one of his costumes. Bret Michaels on Rock of Love wear eyeliner every episode. Banhart is not unusual, and for the most part I really like his style.

Even though Banhart may wear womanly clothes or accessories and even share some of them with Natalie Portman, she makes the better woman. With his overgrown beard he can't be fooling anyone. I am curious to see what he will wear when it comes time for the Oscars.

the bra and stuff was album art...he's always dressed in wacky costumes. On his myspace there is a picture of him and his band all wearing tinfoil suits. Does that make him an Alien? Dont think so.
