When making friends on Associated Content, it is important to make the "right" friends. Associated Content is somewhat like High School. There are cliques and you will have to fall into one of them in order to "fit in." Actually, since High School has a little bit of room for some differences in opinion and the kids can control themselves, strike the "High School" reference and put in "Junior High."

The Shining Stars

The shining stars are always those who are helping others out and never have anything controversial to say about anything. As a matter of fact, they have nothing to say, period. They write the calls for content, participate and play nice in the forums, kiss up to the powers that be and as a reward, get a little pin from the pope.

To become part of this clique, you have to be prepared to kiss a lot of ass all of the time. And defend the site. Never get angry. Never, ever write anything but SEO articles that have been done to death. This conforms with the site.

The Jocks

These are a little bit different than the shining stars. They have usually done something nice for the site and have been rewarded by being treated like living gods. Joining the jocks is simple - just become one of their cheerleaders.

The America Hating Pseudo Intellectuals

They've got thesauruses. They have access to quotes online. They love to argue their politics, usually under a false name for your own protection. Because, as everyone knows, if you disagree with someone on a forum, you can get sued.

In order to join this group, you have to pass a vocabulary test. And you also have to make sure you never, ever break up your paragraphs. One long rant should do you well. And it should be filled with as much venom as possible. They'll take you in. The only problem is that they spend more time on other people's pages attacking blindly. Another name for these guys are "trolls." They have very little, if any, content of their own. Because they can't write.

To become a true member, try not to write too much stuff. It's far more fun to troll than actually write. Especially when you can't really write.

Great article- I feel bad that I had to start using a pen name now. (A funny story is that I had to use a pen name because Obama's campaign manager has the same name as me, every day I was getting Barak emails and even resumes of people wanting to join Obama camp)

>< There are two kinds of people: those who add and multiply, those who subtract and divide. In the equation of Life, the result is up (or down) to the individual. I would like to add two groups: sex goddesses and faerie princesses. Feel free to send me your application to either group (smile). Be well, Michelle, Michael

I censored the motto but it starts with a "C" and rhymes with jocks :)

This reminds me, my 20 year reunion is this year. It is time to start remebering which click I was close to so I know who to talk to.

How true! Like when I was in high school, I was just a nobody. Oh, don't let the title fool y'all. In high school, a "nobody" was not part of any group, but rather, one who had friends and went to parties from many different groups. Sure, my diverse, yet open-minded, friends eventually got booted from their snobby little cliques, but boo-friggin-hoo! What I love so much is many of these cliquish types look for cliques to join their entire adult lives, because they're like fish out of water without their clique there to tell them how to think! Yep, it can be very lonely when you actually think for yourself, but it is rewarding in more ways than one! Like I heard it said in a movie once: "'Tis better to be alone for all the right reasons than to be with someone for all the wrong reasons".
