"The horrific prospect of exterminating potentially millions of animals is not something this country's ready for," said Dr. Floyd Horn.

Fox news is reporting that the Bush administration wants to move the lab that studies hoof and mouth disease from an island to the U.S. Mainland. Hoof and mouth is a highly infectious and contagious disease in the cattle world. Think your food supply is safe? Contamination with this disease will cause extermination of millions of animals. Millions.

In 2001, Britain found out just how devastating hoof and mouth can be. They ended up slaughtering 6 million sheep, cattle and hogs. It was later determined that the infectious hoof and mouth disease escaped from a shared government research center. A lab that also makes vaccines.

The Bush administration says that modern safety techniques lead them to feel that the site would be safe. Ponder this point, hoof and mouth disease can be carried on a worker's clothing, breath and vehicle. Researchers cannot own livestock that is affected by hoof and mouth. It's that infectious. It's that contagious. Does this sound like a disease that we want to take a chance with? Why the burning desire to move this lab where nearby livestock herds are?

If 1 cow shows symptoms, the government plan is to shut down all exports and livestock movement..all. Herds would start to be quarantined. And finally, herds would start to be slaughtered. The government will come in and kill herds within a certain radius of miles. The cattle may be perfectly healthy, but they will not test them, they will slaughter them.

It seems to me that the incident in England should tell us this is wrong! I'm sure they took every precaution, just as we would, but the results were disastrous. Keep it on the island!

Excellent article, Bobby, possibly your best yet. This article should be in newspapers everywhere. What a terrible thing this potential move could lead to.

Whatever common sense the Pres. had seems to have left him completely. I hadn't heard about this before...thanks a bunch for bringing it to our attention...can't imagine why the MSM hasn't been on this...guess they didn't deem it important enough...DUH....as if we don't already have enough to worry about concerning our food supply.
