Why We Hate Liberals

Even Liberals Hate Liberals

I am a moderate: one of those odd, fence-jumping, middle of the road folk who doesn't subscribe to the idea that our thoughts have to be color-coded or we are traitors to our country. I hold some liberal views, like equality for all, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
And I hold some conservative views, such as 'equality means equality, not minority advantage'.

For some time now, I've been trying to figure out why it is exactly that liberals and conservatives hate each other so very much; why it is that whenever a member of one side will take a stand on an issue, members of the other side will choose the opposite just on principle. It is idiotic, stupid, counter-productive, and is, more than anything else (even the terrorists), destroying America.

I think I've finally put my finger on the key difference between the two that's got them so polarized. Conservatives, as a rule, don't like new ideas. They want to 'conserve' the status quo. That isn't to say that they are opposed to change, just that change should follow the existing rules put in place for that change to come about. For example, conservatives believe that corrupt government officials should be taken from power by election or impeachment, not by revolution.

Liberals, on the other hand, are all about new and different ideas. Rather than focus on what they believe, they want to focus on what others think and feel. They advocate the idea of 'walking in another man's shoes' before judging him. For example, Barack Obama wants us to consider the hate and violence that Rev. Wright had to live through before we condemn him for his anger.

Think about it for a minute. If I'd had to live through what he did, I'd be [upset] too.

Both groups believe in freedom, they just have opposite philosophies in reaching toward that goal. Conservatives, of their nature, are centered on self; 'What do I believe?' Liberals focus on society as a whole; 'What is best for us?'

Nice. One thing though-- I'm completely at peace with my "intolerance" for the intolerant! Besides, if I weren't, I'd rather tear myself apart inside over the paradox, than everyone outside of myself just for being outside of myself. =)

I read your article. Read all the comments. Then, reread your article. I agree, the liberals have painted themselves into a corner. I am subscribing and waiting for your article on conservatives! Look forward to it. For myself, I am just tired of "politically correctness".

Actually, "Sylvester", I was on vacation until today. In a place with no Internet, as hard as it may be to conceptualize. Plus, I don't do work when I'm on vacation, hence the lack of answer. In response, I've been planning a critique of Conservative-ism since I wrote this piece on Libs - I just haven't finished it yet. Busy, busy, busy - hence the need for a vacation.

Yeah, I didn't think you'd have the balls to answer. I don't know why I wasted my time.

I really liked this article, and I think your ideas seemed to be very well thought out and true, as well. My only question, for a self-proclaimed moderate, why did you not feel the inclination to give us a critique of the principles of the conservative mindset. I, myself, am a moderate as well, and I think that it is important to view both sides equally, hah, just like you wrote that most liberals want to understand other people's situations. But I do think that is important and just downright interesting, as well. I look forward to hearing more on the fundamental differences between liberals and conservatives, and maybe even some advice or possible solutions to help bring our nation together, despite these differences. Thanks

Hi, Bryan - Thank you soooo much for this! I hope this article gets lots of clicks. As you and I have discussed, I'm a conservative who doesn't "hate" liberals - I just "disagree"! But those two words seem to be one and the same today! Anyway, I also hope that everyone who reads this realizes - not all conservatives are Christians, and not all Christians are conservatives! Over the years I've been a member of 3 churches, and approximately 50% of each were Democratic voters. Surprise! Keep an eye out for my upcoming article, "The Hatred of George W. Bush" - it's in for editing right now! Way to go.

Oh Bryan, how right you are! The Irish never did get a fair shake, so that's why my vote is going to an Irishman this year. Let's all get behind O'Bama! hehehehe. I do think it's funny that KKK thinks you're a conservative. That'd be as silly as labeling you a liberal! Obviously he hasn't the brains to check out the rest of your opinions, from among the many that you've published. Maybe we should establish another "party name" to cover folks like you ... ones who don't follow any particular dogma, but investigate available information to come up with their own ideas. "Independent" doesn't quite cover it; that seems too non-descript. "Rennaisance", perhaps? A re-emergence of thought? Ha-Ha!

kkkristian is nothing more than another stupid leftist loser. I have noticed how the loser has written Christian as KKKristian. He and his camp are nothing more than the real whack jobs that we must encounter on Associated Content and in the world today. This idiot speals about taking a real look at the world, well he/she has forgotten that the freedoms enjoyed come at a cost. I am glad conservatives and republicans know this. Christianity has done more good in the world than bad.
