Prom Night, rated PG-13 and well worth the rating, is a high-suspense horror movie, which has more of a thriller feel. With no creepy paranormal forces or other typical horror movie components similar to that, it seemed as if it was more a thriller type movie, like Red Eye. To warn you, there is a lot of death and blood in this movie, so if you're squeamish or can't handle gore, I don't recommend seeing it. The acting in it, however, is phenomenal. Brittany Snow does a great job as the lead character, Donna, and Johnathan Schaech does a great job as the villain. All-in-all, this movie is probably one of the best horror movies to hit theaters in 2008 so far, even though there haven't been very many.

This movie starts out with a background scene of a tragedy that happened in Donna's past. This relates to the killer, Fenton, who was a former teacher of Donna's who was obsessed with her. After killing her immediate family in her presence, he was captured and put into jail for life, but somehow he escaped. Donna, however, is completely unaware of his escape for the few days before her prom night, but she becomes increasingly paranoid and anxious (having diagnosed anxiety after the tragic incident). This seems to be a type of omen, since as soon as she gets to the prom the police department is notified that Fenton has escaped.

The prom, held at a beautiful hotel in their city, is amazing. It's decorated, catered, DJ'ed and set up only as a prom in the movies or extremely rich city would. However, as the main characters are checking in, so is Fenton, disguised and unrecognizable, except by one character. The cops show up somewhat into the prom after a couple casualties are suffered, and they honestly don't seem to do much in protecting Donna until much later on in the movie. However, the lead cop is a character you can really relate to, unlike most other characters in this movie.

Takeaways
  • You should see Prom Night in theaters soon.
  • Even though it is somewhat predictable, it's still a really good film.
