Pinewood Derby Weekend at the Ross-Rhodes Scout Camp
It was a day of fun this Saturday for area Arkansas Boy Scouts as scouts had a chance to earn belt loops and watch their favorites in the Pinewood Derby races. The annual event was held at the Ross-Rhodes Camp, a 350 acre
Bismarck, AR 71929
United States of America camp leased from the Corp of Engineers, in Bismarck Arkansas. Lake DeGray has risen beyond its banks forcing the scouts to rearrange activities and hold events closer together this year.
Scouts were able to receive instructions in shooting BB guns, and archery. The events are supervised and scouts are taught safety as well as given instructions on proper handling of BB guns and bows. Scouts had the opportunity to make new friends and meet fellow scouts from different troops in Arkansas.
Scouts even got to see the new camp masters quarters being build on the property. Construction is ongoing at this time. Campers not going to camp this summer will have to return next year to see the finished quarters.
When not participating in sporting activities several Ouachita Council scouts enjoyed playing at the Cabe Outpost before taking part in a hot dog luncheon. The sturdy fort located near the entrance of the Ross-Rhodes camp makes for lots of climbing and role playing as scouts enjoyed playing on the second floor and taking a look at the property from the overlook. A good time was had by everyone.
