Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites have their disadvantages and advantages, but they are great media to help promote and portray anyone in the light and manner in which they want to be presented. There are some simple and easy ways to promote or represent a person or organization on these social networking sites in a great way.

First, it is important to know who looks at individuals' MySpace or Facebook pages. There are some unexpected people who will actually search for a person's page and will read and judge them on it including: college admissions staff, scholarship committees, honorary selections committees, sorority recruitment counselors, pageant committees, company interviewers, and internship selection committees. It is clear that not only one's friends and family will be looking at their social networking pages but so will the people who might be determining a person's future, so it is very important for people to represent themselves in a great way on these sites. Even if a person's profile is set to private people can see their profile picture and other limited information, which should most definitely portray them in a wonderful light.

There are numerous things and items that people should avoid putting on pages. First, people should not have pictures of themselves drinking, smoking or taking part in other illegal activities on their profiles. This is for a couple of reasons there can be legal ramifications for the proof of illegal activities posted online and obviously these are also pictures that do not give a good impression to those people who might be looking at a persons profile.

Additionally, what is said on a person page can have a great influence on selection committees. Using proper English in what is typed on a person's profile can make a great impression on those people who might look at the profile page. Also, foul language and racy postings and pictures should definitely not be posted on peoples profile pages or on the internet at all.
