Pepper Steak

A Great Recipe for Round Steak

This is my families favorite pepper steak recipe. This recipe works great with a cheap cut of round steak, be sure to trim off all fat.

What you will need:

1 - 1 ½ lbs. of cheap round steak (cut into thin bite size pieces)

1 can of golden mushroom soup (or cream of mushroom soup)

1 pkg. brown gravy
 mix

2 cans of cold water

1 med. to large green bell pepper sliced (or 1 small green and 1 small red or yellow for color)

1 small red or yellow onion sliced

Preparation:
Combine meat, soup, gravy mix and water into a deep skillet or slow cooker. Stir gravy packet into the water to insure it dissolves. I sometimes stir into 1 can of water before adding.

If using a Deep Skillet:
Bring ingredients listed under preparation to a boil, stir, reduce heat to low and simmer covered. Allow to cook checking moisture level and stirring several times for 40 - 50 minutes. You may need to add more water a little at a time if gravy cooks down too quickly. After first 30 minutes add the onion and bell pepper slices. Add the vegetables before adding extra water as they add moisture to the mixture.

If using a Slow Cooker:
Place meat, soup, gravy mix and water into the cooker, set heat to low, cover and let cook for 6-8 hours. Add vegetables and continue to cook for 30 - 60 min. When cooking with a slow cooker do not remove lid more than you absolutely have to as it will cause heat to escape and take longer to cook. If you will be home when cooking you can set heat to med. And reduce cooking time to 4 hours and then add the vegetables.

This is a tastey and easy recipe that tastes like the made from scratch meals my grandmother used to make. I like this served over rice but it could be served over noodles or mashed potatoes also.
