Treat Mom to a Home Cooked Brunch

Mother's Day Brunch everyday families get together to take their moms out for Brunch on Mother's day. Well this year, since the economy sucks try staying at home and cooking your Mom the best almost all natural home made Brunch she will ever eat. I suggest that you prep some of the food a day before. To give you more time.

Start Off with serving your Mother a cup of Melon in Sweet Wine
- 1/2 Small ripe Cantaloupe, seeded
1/4 ripe honeydew melon, seeded
1/4 ripe casaba melon, seeded
1 cup sweet white wine (Barsac, Sautermes or Anjou)
1 teaspoon minced candied Ginger
Directions: Scoop out melon balls using 1-inch melon baller. Transfer to 4 to 5 cup container. Add wine and ginger and mix well. Cover and refrigerate overnight. To serve, arrange fruit in small cups and spoon liquid over.

Baked Egg Custard Quiche
3 tablespoons butter
2 Large sweet onions (1-pound), thinly sliced
1 1/2 ounces slab bacon (tough rind removed), cut juilenne
6 eggs
1 cup of whipping cream
1/4 cup of milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg & 1/2 freshly ground white pepper

Directions: Butter a shallow 4 1/2 cup ovenproof dish. About 15mins before baking, position rack in center of oven and preheat to 300F.
Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, cover with circle of waxed paper and cook 10 mins. Discard paper, reduce heat to med-low and cook onion until completely sofy but not brown, about 20mins. shaking pan occasionally. Meanwhile, saute bacon until cooked through but not crip. Drain well on paper towels. Beat eggs in large bowl. Add onion, bacon and remaining ingrediants and combine thoroughly, but do not overmix. Taste and adjust seasoning. Ladle mixture into prepared dish. Bake until custard is browned and puffy, about 55 to 60 mins. Let stand for about 10mins before cutting and serving

Top it off with some Oatmeal Cookies for desert and Happy Mother's Day!!!

These receipes are great! I have tried GuS before at a market in SoHo district in NY and they are light and freshing.
