As writers, we are always going to face the dreaded "writers block". The difference between an amateur and a pro is how long you stay blocked. But as an amateur writer but a seasoned songwriter, I have figured out what has helped me overcome my block when writing songs. So I have applied them to my copy writing at has seemed to help me get over my block there as well. Here are the 3 things I'll do in order to help me get over my writers block. Switch to a different creative outlet - This is the one conventional remedy that I do follow for writers block. If I am having trouble finding more to say when writing copy, I'll go pick up my guitar and just start playing. Similarly, when I am writing a song and trying to find the perfect 12 word line of a verse that rhymes with "ocean", sometimes what I need is to just sit down and write where I don't have to censor myself and stick within the framework of a song. Switching outlets has been very successful for me and some of my more creative lyrics have come when I have writers block while trying to write copy.
Surf the internet - This is not one that they will teach you in writer's class, but one I have found extremely helpful. There is a ton of junk on the internet, but there are also some really creative and inspiring things to read out there. Associated content is one of many great sites where you can read some great writing and maybe get inspired. But if you need to laugh, then go to your favorite site that makes you laugh (same thing if you need to cry!) But just spend some time out there and I guarantee you'll come across something that spins your bearings and allows you to head back to the keyboard.
