We all know that the Internet is the place to go for good pornography. But what about the technical aspects of sex? Particularly the more advanced questions, you know, well beyond your fifth grade sex education class? The kind of question your sex educator wasn't interested in answering?

Gratefully, the Internet provides many outlets for sex information - almost as many outlets as there are for sex itself online. But wading through these information sites is much more than a matter of preferences and perversions. While some sites offer advice of every stripe and flavor, it can be tough to sort out the truly knowledgeable experts from those just wanting to brag about their past sexual escapades.

The first stop on the Internet for sex information is a web site that, on the surface, sounds about as unlikely to host sex as your parents were to have it. The Librarians Internet Index, www.lii.org, however, is a good place to start. (Don't believe the prudish stereotype those librarians put out, either. From the librarians I've met, this is simply a very good ruse!) Look up your desired keyword on this unique search engine, whether it be 'sex' or 'foreplay' or 'clitoris' or whatever, and you'll find web sites that have been vetted by librarians as legitimate information sites. Chances are, the folks giving advice on these sites know what they're talking about.

Other folks who take sex information seriously are the wonderful people at San Francisco Sex Information, www.sfsi.org. In addition to their web site, full of information about all kinds of sexual topics, they also respond to emails and phone calls. Yes, it's the Reference Desk of Sex! And don't just take - give. As a non-profit, consider donating to SFSI by check or by online giving. (See their web site and click on the "Support Us" link for details.)

Takeaways
  • 1. Librarians actually have a search engine where results are vetted - a good starting point.
  • 2. San Francisco Sex Information is a non-profit that provides answers to sex questions.
  • 3. Clitical.com is a web site focusing on women's sexuality.
