Several years ago, I created my blog. Our family was living in Germany at the time and our friends and family said they wanted an easy way to find out what's going on in the family and our lives. We had already created a photo album for everyone to see and loads of people visited that. One of my friends introduced me to blogging and so I got started.

Seemed simple enough and I could update it easily, post pictures and random stories about our life and the various hobbies I had. The only problem I had was that it never seemed like anyone ever read the blog. I would post and post and post (and I thought it was all interesting, either to family or those interested in the same hobbies as me), but if people were reading it, they never commented, never e-mailed me saying they liked it - NOTHING!

Why does it seem that I go from blog to blog to blog that their readers are numerous, each post has thirty or more comments and here I am spending probably the same amount of time on my blog as them and I get nothing? I just find this all totally strange and it affects me personally. I mean, wouldn't you get your feelings hurt if you worked on something as hard as your blog and no one ever showed any concern as to whether they liked the post and pictures or whether they thought everything I wrote about was crap.

I will admit that I visit a lot of blogs weekly. Mostly the same ones all the time, but I do venture off and read ones I come across on the internet. I read the blogs, I enjoy them and whether I didn't like something or whether I totally adored the topic, I leave comments. Even if it's a simple "I like your site." I leave it! I think that everyone needs that uplifting feeling of receiving a comment, knowing that someone out there actually spent a few minutes of their time reading your blog and that someone appreciates the time spent working on the post.

That's all I'm asking. Just a simple "hello" letting me know that people are out there, they are reading my blog and that they have some sort of reaction to the post written. That's all. Is that too much to ask?

Well, at least I've had some comments on this one! Thanks for the feedback!

Well, I posted something and it didn't show up. As if we don't struggle enough for comments, AC's system decides to eat the ones we do get! On the chance that this one goes thru - write good stuff each time out, keep the faith and the comments will come.

I love the interactive possibilities of the comment section. But most people are lazy and don't leave comments. On lively blogs and discussion boards, you can frequently learn more from the comments than the article itself. I always hope someone leaves a comment on one of my articles that adds to my knowledge of the topic. But you cannot control what others do. All you can do is write the best blogs or stories that you can and trust in the fact that if you produce quality, an audience will find you.

I know your pain, I look forward to comments as well. On my blogs I install hit counters that trace only new visitors, at least I get a little satisfaction from knowing someone passed through for a moment or so. Though nothing beats a good comment, it shows they actually read it.
