To me the Alien v. Predator movies have recreated the days of Michael Myers, Freddie Krueger and Jason Voorhees with a science-fiction twist. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I could totally do without the congregation of the teenage minds throughout the movie. It takes me back to horror movie marathons where the predictable teens who are having sex and drinking get slaughtered by the villain of choice. I always find myself routing for the villan in these instances. In this film, I was forced to choose between the two as in Freddy v. Jason (in which case I always voted for Jason out of pity).

First let us examine the name. AVPR? Has the entire world gone militant or lazy? When creators first started using acronyms in names, such as T3 and D2, it was kind of cool. If I recall correctly that was in the nineties and we have now entered a new decade. I thought the name could definitely use a tweaking, but I was glad to hear that it was named AVP2. At least they had a little class and added a complicated word, "requiem," into the mix. Unfortunately, it reduced to one letter in the title as well.

I must say the graphics are excellent much like the first Alien v. Predator. Although, I am partial to movies that don't use an excess of darkness, this movie played it out well. The incorporation of infrared screens and night vision screens brought this movie to life. It is always great to take the guess work out of what your favorite villan is actually viewing, unless it is the same thing that a normal person would view with an added digital screen and adlib words around it, as in the Terminator movies and the Robocop series.

The aliens in this movie were so much better than the ones in the original Alien movies. Definitely more on the grotesque side than the "pop out for the thrill" and "slime everywhere" days of Segornye Weaver. The predator, however, has not really evolved since his creation. He is still the same dreadlocked creature that he started out as.
