Finally a Female Biggest Loser!

Last night was NBC's hit show The Biggest Loser Couples live finale show to reveal the winner of the $250,000 and the title of The Biggest Loser. For the first time in the history of the show the title goes to a woman and I could not be more thrilled for her and all of us who want to loose weight. Ali, the daughter half of the pink team, lost a whopping 112 pounds during her journey. The other prize money, $100,000, went to Bernie for losing the most weight of the contestants that had been voted off before the finale.

We finally have a female Biggest Loser! Each season before has been won by a man. Statistically men are bigger and have more weight to loose when on the show. Men also loose weight in a different way and at a different rate than woman so their weekly weight loss percentage can be bigger. For many of the men this season loosing double digits of weight was commonplace while the woman would loose a few pounds a week. Week after week the woman would fall below the dreaded yellow line and would be voted off while the men would stay another week.

This year's winner is Ali is a 32 year old hairdresser. She began this season at 234 pounds and with a resolution to be able to wear sleeveless shirts. Last night her grand total of weight loss was 112 pounds. That is a 47.86% loss of body weight. She is almost literally half the size she was when she started!

Ali was partnered with her mother, Betti-Sue, at the beginning of the season and they were known as the pink team. Since this season was a couple's contest to begin with the two of them were eliminated together on the week 4 episode. Before leaving Ali even said that she would be the Biggest Loser even though she had been sent home. This show is known for throwing curve balls to their contestants and on the week 11 episode all of the eliminated players came back for a very important weigh in. The man and woman who lost the hightest percentage of weight would be allowed to come back and train on the ranch with Bob and Jillian and compete once again for the grand prize. Both Mark and Ali came back and it is worth noting that they both made it all the way to the finale last night!
