Food for Picky Children
Maintaining a nutritious and well-balanced diet for toddler can prove to be difficult. Most toddlers are picky eaters and getting them to eat can be a battle. Here are some choices for a variety of nutritious food that your toddlers may enjoy.
Grilled Cheese Sandwich - Its easy to make and tastes great. Use whole grain instead of white bread to make it a healthier choice. Cut into fun shapes so children have fun while eating. You can add a little butter to the toasted bread to soften the bread. My kids don't like toast or crusts. A little butter softens the toast and they like it.
Mashed Yams. Add a bit of butter and mash up. It has a slight sweet taste that kids love.
Cinnamon Rasin Bread with Jelly or Cream Cheese Spread. The first time I gave this to my daughter she didn't want it, before she even tasted it. I waited a few days and offered it to her again. I told her it was cake with frosting and her eyes lit up. She absolutely loves it. I use lite spread and low fats raisin bread.
Honey Nut Cheerios or Plan Cheerios with milk. I let the cheerios sit in the milk for a few minutes so that they soften up. My son doesn't like to eat the cheerios without milk as I had tried to feed him many times before. He likes them softened and prefers Honey Nut to the plain.
Yogurt. Color is a decisive factor for kid's food choices. Try the already mixed yogurt as opposed to the fruit at the bottom yogurt. Once they are accustomed to eating yogurt, graduate to the variety of yogurt that you all like. My daughter loved the strawberry yogurt because its pink. She now doesn't care about the color and loves any type of yogurt.
Oatmeal. This one is a bit tricky. My daughter still won't try it no matter what, but my son loves it. If your children are young enough, get them started on oatmeal right away. Make smiley faces on the oatmeal using fresh fruit.
