Xmas Gift Ideas for the Hiker in Your Life

Though I don’t get to as often as I would like, I do hike and know there are several useful gifts that all hikers should have.  Hikers sometimes spend hours at a time on just one hike and need gifts that take that into consideration.  Gifts for hikers should be useful, not a cumbersome object that will never be used.  Gifts should also be light; having to carry everything on your back when hiking makes it hard to carry around heavy objects.  Here are seven gifts that every hiker will love.




Backpack:  A big, sturdy backpack is the perfect gift for hikers.  The backpack should have several compartments, making it easy to separate food and water from non-edible hiking gear.  I also suggest a backpack that is water proof and made of a thick canvas that isn’t easily torn.




Water Canteen:  All that hiking makes you really thirsty.  That’s why every hiker should be equipped with a water canteen.  Though many hiking trails do have water sources surrounding them, they aren’t always safe to drink from.  To ensure that the hiker in your life will always have fresh water, buy them a water canteen that is large, yet will easily fit in their backpack or can easily be carried around their neck.




Walking Stick:  Some hiking trails have very steep hills that are hard to walk up.  A walking stick makes the perfect gift for hikers, especially those who choose harder trails.  A walking stick will ensure that the hiker has an easier time making it up those steep hills, without having to crawl up them on all fours. 




First Aid Kit:  Being a hiker almost always means sustaining injuries along the trail.  This doesn’t happen on every trail of course but it does happen and it’s best for the hiker in your life to be prepared when it does happen.  You can either buy this gift prepackaged or you can put together your own first aid kit buying medicines, ankle braces, bandages, etc at your local dollar store.  You can then package all these items in a slotted container for easy access.
