2008 NBA Bracket, Playoff Predictions

Predictability in the East and Chaos in the West

It's that time of year again. When the hardwood becomes the battlefield of the NBA elite, and the blood, sweat and tears flow like wine ... and the fans instinctively flock to their televisions like the salmon of Capistrano.
2008 NBA Bracket, Playoff Predictions
Sixteen teams will kick-off their championship quest, but only one can be successful:

Round One - East

Boston (1) vs. Atlanta (8)

Boston swept the regular season series with the Hawks (outscoring Atlanta by and average margin of 14.3 points per game), and that theme should continue in the first round. Boston in 4

Cleveland (4) vs. Washington (5)

Although the Wizards have been injury ridden for the entire season, they are finally healthy and should put up quite a fight in their first round match-up. The Cavaliers and Wizards split their regular season series, but the Cavaliers have the edge here (i.e. Lebron) and should eke out the necessary wins. Cleveland in 6

Detroit (2) vs. Philadelphia (7)

The 76ers have turned a lot of heads this season with their impressive push during the second half of the season. They actually split with the Pistons in their regular season series, but both of the 76er wins came after the Pistons had begun mailing it in for the year. Detroit will now start giving their full effort and should take this series with relative ease. Detroit in 5

Orlando (3) vs. Toronto (6)

This very intriguing match-up should also prove to be very entertaining. The fast-paced Raptors can be very dangerous when they're on a hot streak. Toronto, however, has cold as of late. Since March 1st, they've gone 9-16, a slump that, interestingly enough, coincided with the return of TJ Ford to the team. Under Jose Calderon, the team was thriving ... no doubt an issue the team will look at in the off-season. In the end, Dwight Howard should prove to be too much for Chris Bosh and the Raptors. Toronto in 6

Round One - West

LA Lakers (1) vs. Denver (8)

The Lakers won all 3 of the regular season meetings by an average of 16.3 points. Denver should be able to take one game at home, but not much else. Iverson and Carmelo should fall in the first round, and George Karl's job security may be in question. Lakers in 5

Utah (4) vs. Houston (5)

Since my Spurs are out, I had predicted this year would be a classic Lakers/Celtics. I DON"T want bryant to win... so GO CELTICS! Following is my april 22 post and prediction here: (It doesn't look like Dallas will go past the first round. If so, they won't go past Lakers or Phoenix (although spurs still have a chance!) As much as I hate to predict this, REMEMBER YOU READ IT HERE: Lakers vs Celtics in Finals... Celtics in 6 or 7. GO SPURS!!!!! Add a Comment Posted on 04/22/2008 at 9:04:06 PM} GO SPURS! (there's always next year...)

Your predictions weren't too off-base. Well, other than the Dallas ones (but I can certainly understand given that you're a Mavericks fan). Based on the games to date, Boston and Cleveland look terrible. You can call it good defense or poor offense, whatever, all it looked like to me was poor execution - that kind of play will not cut it against any of the four teams from left in the Western Conference or against Detroit for that matter. Right now, the Lakers look the strongest (based on playoff record). My prediction is that it will be Pistons vs. Lakers with the Lakers winning in 6 games.

brian ficarra asks: "lets see how smart i am now." ... I think that your rambling, incoherent comment answers that question very well.

sixers boy u have some brains, most nba fans these days do not. i have my boys duncan and company playing DEEEtroit in the finals and have pistons winning in 7 also. bein a die hard warriors/kings fan, ive had spurs as my sec fav for days. pop is no question coach of the year every year. both squads play badass defense and here we go, something new to the nba, FUNDAMENTAL basketball. smart play, good ball distribution, perimeter defense (no one does it like my boy artest though) and rebounding. same with detroit. Parker absolutely murdered mr. over rated steve nash. 2time mvp wat a (*&()%$ joke! dude always turns over in late games and couldnt even guard the refs if he had to. Chaunc is the best point in the league and duncan is the best overall power forward ever. Spurs and lakers in west detroit boston in east. lets see how smart i am now.

Sixers stink! Raptors stink! If you ask me it's obviously Celtics over LA in 5!!!

Not sure if "SIXERS BOY" watches basketball, but the Mavericks were knocked out of the playoffs a few days ago. They've even had time to fire their coach. Oh, and FYI ... your Sixers were knocked out yesterday.

DALLAS BLOWS BUT I STILL LOVE YOU

RE: The 'Super Ginobili's' of the world should avoid getting too cocky. Although the Suns are down 3-1, they still have some life left. I, for one, wouldn't mind if the Spurs were the first team to blow a 3-0 lead. Well... they didn't.. (blow a 3-0 lead, that is)!!!! ...another one bites the dust. See you next year, Suns. GO SPURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're out of here... Mavs, that is! Go SPURS!!!!!
