North Korea finally conducting the nuclear test comes as no surprise. It was there for the asking because of the bullying tactics adopted by the President Bush in browbeating other nations. North Korea’s nuclear explosion will now spurt other nations like South Korea, Iran, Japan and Brazil to follow suit in order to match the nuclear threat posed by its rivals.

Iran has already made its intention clear of going nuclear. It will be watching with interest how the global nations deal with North Korea going nuclear. The world apart from lending vocal protest by condemning North Korea and later imposing sanctions can think of no other punitive action. Mind you sanctions never worked against Pakistan and India, when it exploded nuclear bombs. Neither had it worked as a deterrent for other nations becoming nuclear. North Korea is the case in point.

Despite the stern warning issued by President Bush to the extent of threatening military intervention, but it couldn’t prevent North Korea from going nuclear. So far, what ever pressure the United States had exerted on Iran, has shown hardly any tangible result, judging by the tough public posture taken by the Iran premier against the US.

It is just a matter of time that one morning the world will wake up to the news of Iran exploding nuclear bomb. What is the logic of United States advising Iran against exploding nuclear bomb, when United States was the first nation to use nuclear bomb in Hiroshima. Why this double standard against third world countries when it didn’t voice its concern to Western countries becoming nuclear. Tomorrow if it’s close ally South Korea and Japan choose to go nuclear in order to match North Korea military capability, can we expect President Bush to similar adopt tough stand as he is taken against Iran.
