When many students first begin their student teaching experience, they become overwhelmed with stress and other emotions. I mean let's face it, trying to teach other student's while you are still in school yourself can be hard to balance. If student teachers take one evening to plan out the entire semester (or even a few weeks in advance) student teaching can be fun and relaxed, not something that needs to be stressed over on every occasion.

You will want to begin by buying a planner. Make sure to buy one that will suit your needs, which means one that will allow you to plan your student teaching day, and your own class schedule. Make sure to plan when you will have to be in a classroom, and when you will be studying for that big test. Highlight them, use stickers, or anything else that you think will help keep you on task.

When you get a chance, stop by an office supply store and see what they have that will keep you organized. Manila folders, binders, paper clips, and other organizational tools will come in handy as it will allow you to separate your personal work from your students work. Make sure that all student work immediately gets placed into a folder and never gets mixed with your personal work. Temptation may arise every now and then to just toss the papers wherever you can for sorting later, but ignore it. This will only make you lose precious time because you didn't want to be organized right away. As a student teacher, you should be working on those skills that will follow you into the work place, and organization is one of those skills.

Takeaways
  • Buy a planner.
  • Prepare for the day the night before.
  • Keep your teaching supplies and your school work separate.
