Every election cycle in America some people go to the polls and vote for their lives and the lives of their families to be adversely affected. Especially since the Reagan presidency, this group has been voting in a way that has seen their real earning power drop by more than 20 percent while health care costs have skyrocketed. And a good deal of the blame for what has happened goes straight to the voters who have been duped into supporting candidates that helped to make this happen. Compared to the myriad failures of the American conservative movement there is a resounding success in the continuing effort to concentrate wealth in the hands of their constituent aristocracy.

Some numbers....
1.In 2001 the top one percent of Americans held one third (33.4%) of wealth in America, while the bottom 80 percent held around 15 percent.
2. When you look at financial wealth (money holdings) the disparity is even greater, 40 percent vs. less than 9 percent.
3.Since 2001 estimates are that the disparity has grown to the point where the top one percent now holds around half of the wealth of America.

What this means is that the top one percent holds half of what runs America, financial wealth. And the top 10 percent have almost all of it. This is the money that has so corrupted Washington that no one but the top select few are having their interests addressed in any meaningful way. That's why there is little concern coming from the powers that be concerning rising food and fuel prices. Did you know food and fuel aren't even used as components in computing the inflation rate? Why do you suppose that is?

We need a new "New Deal!"

Takeaways
  • Don't vote against the interests of your family!
  • The biggest success of the conservative movement is the transfer of wealth.
  • And it is very much on purpose.

On another note...Joe...individual congress members may not understand or know why the economy is in crisis. But I gaurantee there is some swift little suit sitting up on Capitol Hill saying, "I tried to tell you, sir."

Well said, but you left out the part where both parties are blamed. Conservatives are not alone in the rape of this nation. Liberals bowing to their own big business interests have perpetrated similar offenses.

Liberals view the world as if all people may get along. Now this is as dumb a thought as any. Liberals politically are ignorant. They will be the death of America and are the main reason Bush acted the way he did. The American people will not vote in any liberal because he/sheis nothing more than a self hating loser. All liberals do is complain, complain and complain somemore like little babies. Waaah, waaaah...where are the diapers hun. The liberals have made America into a "sissy" nation. Liberal theology with the use of socialism has destroyed every major city in America. Look at Detroit, Michigan now. Once a major metropolist is now nothing more than a plighted heaven of Democrat liberal scum. Look at Stockton, California and Los Angeles. Liberals are scum Jeff. Get over it, smart people do not vote liberal because conservative is much better.

Jack said it well in his comments, it is very apparent that there very much is a right and wrong way to view the world. The current American conservative movement is more fascist than conservative, and needs to be countered.

I must agree with Brett. Come on liberals, give the conservatives some of the tolerance you're always professing. You say you are the tolerant ones...but this article is rather INtolerant. Still on the polite side, but intolerant. However, I don't think people who use outright swear words should be allowed on AC - like "Ron", who calls himself US Military (4/21 remark). I doubt he is the real deal, especially since he won't identify himself. They are taught to be more respectful than that. Incidentally, did you know that not all conservatives are Christians and not all Christians are conservative? I've been in 3 churches with 50% Democratic voters! I'm not sure why the 10 Commandments and all that stuff always comes up when mentioning conservatives! Found your article while writing my own on a similar subject! Come see me for a different viewpoint. See my article on GW Bush. Love ya anyway!

Jeff, you have become more radical and completely out of touch with the center of main stream America. Many voters will go towards the center in the general election, and vote for the person who most reflects what they believe in. Over the months many have listened to "Free Health Care for everyone" - "Affordable Health Care" - " Affordable Health Care Insurance" and come to the conclusion that Government Control is Not the answer. As far as Wealth - Both Dem's and Rep's share almost equally in wealth - Neither will vote against their best interest. Obama will have to try his best to move towards the center, otherwise the independent voters will have no choice but vote for McCain.

Jeff certainly has some strong principles and isn't afraid to express them.

I can't believe this article. If I wrote something as abrasive and insulting, I would be booed down and attacked unrelentingly...and rightly so, I might add.

Politics is something that people used to be able to agree to disagree on. No more. Never has it been more evident that there is a right and a wrong way to govern this nation. The disastrous foreign and economic policies of the conservatives cannot continue. And I am optimistic that this country finally sees that, despite the pre-Democratic nominee polls. Fear and hatred and guns and supernatural beings will not be enough for the Republicans this November.

And Johnny, I couldn't agree more!

Joe, you are wrong....first, they pushed through the first increase of the min. wage in years, among other things. And remember, it is hard to do anything with a very slim majority and a hostile president. Your assessment isn't really valid under those conditions. You are right about one thing, the stimulus will do little to nothing. It is in all probability too late to stop a severe economic downturn. The choices we make in Nov, however, will have alot to say about how long it will last, how severe it will be, and what kind of country will emerge.

If this election is about the real issues than Obama will destroy McCain. How could he not? McCain represents George W. Bush's 3rd term for God's sake! Who would be insane enough to vote for 4 more years of Dubya's failed policies? Of course that's why the GOP will do everything they can to make sure this election is about superficial trivial nonsense. I hope that American's are smart enough to see through this. We can truly not afford 4 more years of neocon rule. We just can't. Our economy is going down the drain, our military is stretched thin, millions of us have no heath care. This isn't a time for trivialities. This is a time for true change. It's a time for a new beginning. It's time for BARACK OBAMA! Vote Obama 2008!

Firstl, I have noticed that the Democrats haven't done a thing about the problem of the uneven distribution of wealth since they took over the Congress last year. They do a lot of talking, but we get no action from them. Second, I noticed that you didn't distinguished between PaleoConservatives (I am one), and NeoConservatives like the more recent occupiers of the Congress and White house have been and are. Third, The economy is collapsing and the (Deemocraticly controlled) Congress (both parties) have no idea what's causing it so they have only agravated the crisis with their "Economic Stimulus Package." You might try reading my recently published essay, "Solving the Economic Crisis" for what is causing the crisis and how to solve it.

Outstanding article Jeff and enticing title.

Julia, you may indeed cancel each other's vote...what we need to know is that when ten people cancel each other out, it only takes one moe on either side to swing the whole group...so make sure you vote, and get one other person to!
